As a mom of three I know how important it is to stay healthy for yourself, your spouse, and your kids. It can be very hard to even get up sometimes when you have so much to do in a day and you feel horrible. It sometimes feels like you don’t even get a break to be sick. Even when those times hit, all of the awesome moms in the world are rockstars and get through it. As one mom to another, lets get through this together.

A lot of times I find it very stressful when I start getting sick. I get frustrated knowing I won’t be taking care of the kids or the house as well as I normally would when I’m not sick. After I’m sick though I do find it a good reminder, that it is sometimes good to slow down, to be thankful for your health, and to enjoy those small moments with your children and your spouse.

Being sick is by no means enjoyable but good things can definitely come out of not so good situations.

Sick Day Tips For The Busy Parent

Get Some Rest!

Seriously? Yeah… I know.

Your body is sick for a reason and lack of sleep is a major factor of people starting to get sick. Not enough sleep can weaken your immune system. Make getting rest, a priority.

Get your kiddos to take their nap, read some books, or watch a movie. If you have a new baby, sleep when they sleep as much as possible. Then go get some quality sleep in your bed. Let the house relax for a day or two while you really get the rest you need. Paper products, already prepared food, and canned soup are your friends.

  • Lipton Bedtime Bliss Tea is the perfect solution to tossing and turning from lack of sleep when you are tired and sick. An herbal infusion that sings you to sleep, like a lullaby in a cup.* Carefully selected botanicals are blended with natural essential oils that make every cup delicious. I also love adding some honey and lemon to my tea to help soothe a sore throat.

When you have changes in your immune system, you can get a a list of symptoms. Cold, flu, cold sores, and fatigue are just a couple of symptoms.

  • Cold sores. Thankfully I’m one of the lucky people that don’t get cold sores. Unfortunately, my husband gets them though. Go Shopping Before you get “all the way sick”

Going shopping when you are sick is always so hard, especially if you have little ones! So, if you are really needing to pick some things up, try to get it all at once and keep it simple, and get everything at the start of you being sick. No one wants to feel horrible and have to go the store.

I shopped at Fred Meyer, part of the Kroger Family of stores. My kids love going to Fred Meyer because of their little car shopper carts and the one free fruit they get in the produce section at my location. They were also very happy to pick up some things to help mommy and them feel better with their cold.

The Essential Sick Parent’s Shopping List

  • Soup
  • Broth
  • Crackers
  • Juice
  • Hot Tea
  • Facial Tissues
  • Easy food to make for the family
  • Diapers and wipes (if applicable)
  • Cold and/or Flu Relief products

It’s okay to ask for help

As a parent it is hard to ask for help sometimes. You know what? It’s okay. The people that love you in your life want to help you. So, even if it is asking them to watch the kids for two hours so you can get a nap or asking them to pick something up for you and the kids while they are out.

Take A Bath/Hot Shower And Relax

Hot water and steam help clear your sinuses and also helps with any muscle aches. Get your favorite music, bathing wash, bubble bath, or bath bombs and just relax for a while.

Get Well Soon

Well dear parent, I hope you get well soon and your family stays healthy.

Wishing you and your family:

The Best Home Life!
